My Top 10 Favorite Knitting Needles & Notions

I thought it would be fun to start a new section of my blog called “Favorites”. This section & following blog posts will contain just that-things that are my favorite! They will be items that I own & are tried and true!  So to begin I thought I would start with my favorite notions & knitting needles.  Having the right notions & knitting needles for your project is like making sure you have the right tools for the job!

DyakCraft Darn Pretty Knitting Needles

First up are my much loved DyakCraft Darn Pretty needles. These are my favorite knitting needles! Knitting with wooden needles is my preference because I like how they feel warm in the hand. As someone whose hands are always cold this is a major pro! The cables are great because they don’t coil up & they come in a bunch of sizes. You can even have cable sizes custom made! I have both the 5″ & 3″ tips. I prefer to knit with the 5″ & use the 3″ for smaller circumferences.  These are a joy to knit with!

Cons: They’re expensive. I was hesitant at first because of the cost, but I was lucky enough to see and feel them in person & that sold me. They do occasionally go on sale or you can try and find them secondhand on Ravelry. Another con is that they can sometimes start to come unscrewed while knitting and your stitches will start to get caught in the gap. It doesn’t happen all the time but it does happen frequently enough that its worth mentioning. To remedy this I check to make sure they’re still screwed tightly while I’m knitting. I find it tends to happen when your garment is larger and the weight pulls on the cables. Its slightly annoying but not annoying enough for me to not use them.

Chiaogoo Red Lace Knitting Needles

For smaller/larger sizes not available in my Darn Pretties I turn to Chiaogoo Red Lace knitting needles. As someone who does not like knitting with metal these metal needles converted me! They don’t feel like the normal cold metal in your hand. I swear by their 12″ & 9″ circular needles for knitting sleeves. (I actually own every size they make of the 9″ circulars-they’re that great!) They  make knitting sleeves enjoyable because you can just knit around & around!  The cord and join on these needles is fantastic as well as the super pointy tips! Cons: Other than the fact that they’re metal & I prefer wood I don’t have anything bad to say about them-they’re great!

Clover Pom-Pom Maker & Fiskar Scissors

How I make all of my pom-poms. The Clover pom-pom makers make it so easy! The large set & extra large are my most used. If you love making poms as much as I do this set includes all the sizes! Of course you cant make pom-poms without super sharp scissors and these Fiskars do the trick! They’re perfect for trimming and shaping afterwards too-achieving the perfect pom-pom is all about that final haircut!

Notions

Clockwise From 12:

Darning Needle:

This Clover darning needle is my favorite! I love the bent tip! The bent tip allows for easy seaming and the unique color is easy for spotting while seaming. You can seam anything from lace weight to super bulky with this needle. Can’t live with out it 10/10! BTW its a good thing it comes in a 3 pack because I’ve lost the other 2 LOL!

Cohana Scissors:

How cute are these scissors???!!!! They’re so tiny & cute! The perfect scissors to throw in your knitting bag to snip ends. Plus they’re so cute you can’t help but smile when you use them!

Tulip Heart Stitch Markers:

Again, how cute are these???!! These heart stitch markers are just so cute! They’re locking, they’re lightweight, they’re too cute!

Sheep Tape Measure:

I’ve had this sheep tape measure for years. Can you tell I have a thing for cute notions???!! I mean who can resist a sheep tape measure???!!

Clover Wonder Clips:

These little clips really are wonders! I will not seam without them. They make seaming a breeze because you can clip everything together with them. They’re super strong and sturdy too so you can even try on your clipped item before seaming. Highly recommend! Mine are the Clover brand but Amazon sells generics in larger quantities.

Rose Gold Safety Pin Stitch Markers:

I use these locking stitch markers to mark increases and decreases on my knitting. I like that they’re simple and light weight so that they don’t disturb the stitch they’re locked on. Plus they’re inexpensive so when you lose 1 or 2 you wont feel guilty.

Nerd Bird Makery Washi Tape:

The best washi tape I’ve used! Its got just the right amount of stick so it doesn’t rip your pattern when you move it along. I hate it when my washi tape is too sticky and rips the page! I’ve been using Nerd Bird’s for at least a year and it hasn’t ripped my patterns. Plus the designs are-you guessed it-CUTE!!!

I’d love to know- what are your favorite knitting needles & notions?

About your needles coming unscrewed: my Knit Picks interchangeable needles came with a small tightening key. I didn’t really discover it until I complained to my mom about them coming unscrewed and she enlightened me. 😂 Do your needles have that little curved wire in the pack?

I do not believe there is a key and I think this is a common issue with them as I’ve heard others talk on Ravelry. I think someone posted on Ravelry that they messaged them about it and their solution was to slightly over tighten them???? I don’t want to keep twisting as hard as I can though for fear I strip the screws or break them. So I just kinda deal with it. Do you like you Knit Picks now? Those seem to be very popular!

I love my Knit Picks needles. The wood comes in a few different colors and they’re so pretty and easy to use. The key really does help. I haven’t had an “unscrewing” issues since!

I’ll look at these and see if they’re available in sizes the Darn Pretties aren’t. Are they nice and pointy too? I like a pointy tip lol 😂
